Not arguing with the dark. I spent many years working in mental health, with adults and adolescents in acute psychiatric settings. One thing became very clear to me early on: I was never meant to tell people what to do. I wasn’t the light. I was a lamp lighter. My role was to help create enough safety, enough calm, and enough clarity for someone to see their own next step — when they were ready. Light that is forced becomes blinding.
