The Morning It Didn’t Feel Like a Reward

There are moments when something familiar no longer feels the same.
This morning, I reached for what had been part of my life for years. Not out of need… just habit.
It didn’t comfort me. It didn’t settle anything.
Instead, it made me dizzy. Nauseous. Unsteady.
And I sat there thinking…This isn’t a reward.
For a long time, I believed certain habits were helping me. That they gave me something—calm, relief, a pause in the day.
But this morning was different.
There was no comfort in it. Only clarity.
Sometimes awareness doesn’t come as a gentle realization. Sometimes it arrives through discomfort.
Not to punish…But to show us what no longer belongs.
I didn’t need to analyze it .I didn’t need to argue with it.
I simply noticed:
This no longer feels like something I want.
And that noticing…was enough.
Not a declaration. Not a struggle.
Just a quiet shift.
A moment of intentional light.
We don’t always need to fight the dark.
Sometimes we just stop choosing it.
This reflection is part of a growing body of work exploring awareness, discernment, and the quiet choices that shape our lives. More from the Intentional Light series and upcoming book will be shared soon.
